Yellow Bowel Movement
A stool that is light brown or almost yellow in color can happen. Check the lighting before proceeding onto diagnosis.
What Causes Yellow Bowel Movement?
Yellow stool may indicate that food is passing through the body quickly; maybe due to diarrhea or infection.
Yellow stool can also be found in people who suffer GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) – symptoms of which include heartburn, chest pain, sore throat, chronic cough and wheezing. Symptoms may worsen when lying down.
If onset of yellow feces is very sudden it may be a sign of bacterial infection of the intestines.
Again, a paling in color of stool, including yellowing, may be attributed to not enough exposure to bile salt. Bile is greenish yellow and when it reacts with enzymes in the bowel it turns stools brown. One reason could be lack of bile; either because the body is not making enough or because the bile ducts are blocked. Blocked bile ducts can be caused by gallstones, cysts or tumors. A second reason that bile is not being absorbed could be that the stool is moving too quickly through the body – possibly due to diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome or short bowel syndrome.
How to Cure Yellow Bowel Movement
A healthy diet could return the speed at which food passes through your body back to normal. If you cannot attribute your problems with diet or medication, consult a medical practitioner.
