Painful Bowel Movement
Any pain that accompanies the passing of feces is classed as a painful bowel movement. The pain can be in the rectal passage, or higher up in the abdomen.
Causes of Painful Bowel Movement
A large stool, constipation or a burning bowel movement can cause pain. Stress; causing muscle tension; can also be a factor. Damaged or irregular tissue in the intestine or anus may attribute too.
A painful bowel movement accompanied with the constant need to empty the bowels, and involuntary training efforts could be Tenesmus. Tenesmus is generally associated with inflammatory diseases of the bowels, which may be caused by an infection or by other conditions. Tenesmus is characterized by a sensation of needing to pass stool, accompanied by pain, cramping, and straining. Despite straining, little stool is passed.
Causes include: Infammation, Chron’s Disease, Ulcerative colitis, infection, or cancer.
Cure of Painful Bowel Movement
If the cause is constipation or a hot bowel movement, a change in diet will help. There are also stool softening agents which may be useful – available at your local pharmacy.
If the problems persist it is recommended you speak with your physician, especially if you are experiencing other symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, chills, blood in the stool, nausea, or vomiting. Such symptoms could be a sign of an underlying disorder.
