Green Bowel Movement

Green stool is basically the opposite of dark stool. Whereas dark feces is due to the stool remaining an abnormally long time in the colon; a feces that passes through rather quickly is likely to be green. Green stools are very common and pretty normal.

What Causes Green Bowel Movements?

Large amounts of green foods such as leafy vegetables that are rich in chlorophyll such as broccoli or wheat grass; green or purple artificial coloring, or iron supplements could be the cause.

Also if you are suffering from diarrhea then the rapid progress of stool through the body will cause the abnormality, as it does not get enough exposure to bile – which attributes fecal matter its brown color.

How to Cure Green Bowel Movements

As green stools are pretty common, there really is no definitive cure. Try cutting out the green foods for a while. If you have been suffering from diarrhea try to find out the cause – and remember chronic diarrhea can cause severe dehydration and health concerns so be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

If your diet or lifestyle cannot be attributed to the color of your feces and your symptoms persist, then consult your physician.
